55 plays

9 readers

And lots of cups of coffee.

Capital had our final selection meeting on Monday to discuss the shortlist for our playwriting competition. We are delighted to announce that the winning plays are:

Cuddles by Joseph Wilde
Without a Hand to Hold by Rob Joiner
Calyx by Sean Burn

We look forward to meeting the writers next weekend and working with them over the forthcoming months.

It was a very strong field and thank you to everyone who entered, and to our readers who performed a sterling job.

A very clear theme began to emerge amongst the shortlisted plays – that of alienation and social disconnection. An interesting reflection on people’s current worries, concerns and pre-occupations. It’s also a nice link to our pilot event back in November 2010. We’re beginning to see the legacy of the Big Society. And it ain’t pretty.
